Closing January 31, 2019
It is with mixed emotions that we inform you that JCS will be closing its doors January 31st or, when we reach a satisfactory inventory reduction.
Since the passing of our beloved daughter in October, we have had to make some difficult decisions, one of which means moving to Colorado to be closer to our son and his family.
We want you to know that we have enjoyed and appreciate your patronage and acceptance of our little store in Cambridge, as well as the lovely friendships we have made.
For the remainder of January, we will have a 20% sale on items such as JCS jewelry, jewelry benches and displays and various other merchandise (candles, pottery). Please drop by so that we can say thank you, and goodbye.
We were profiled on Local TV WMDT 47
We are thrilled that a local TV station came to our Downtown Cambridge store to film a feature article about us. This was filmed while we were sitting at one of our students benches.in our store and classroom. View article. Check out our classes and stop by, we love visitors.
Carrying on the Dream
Using specially selected natural gemstones, from all over the world they personally design and craft each piece using silver sheet, wire and solder; sometimes incorporating gold, copper and brass into the designs. Simplicity and elegance is their approach as they form, texture and hammer metal and choose 'just the right' stone to complement their original designs. Their state of the art studio (aka shop) is fully equipped with the latest equipment along with the timeless tools of a craftsperson. If you have a piece of jewelry you want recreated or repaired they can assist you with that.
Learning their silver craft from a handful of master silversmiths and jewelers in Tucson for 4 years, John and Maryetta Dynan continued their development, bringing their artistic vision and talents to Easton, Maryland and Cambridge, Maryland. They believe that each piece of jewelry they create is an art form that has the power to inspire one’s feelings, as well as provoke conversations about the many marvels found in our earth.
Maryetta has become known for her unique and stylish earrings, bracelets and pendants. Her ability to see the metal and gemstones in front of her as a finished design allows her creations to come to life.
John has broadened his skills from creating jewelry and jewelry repairs to include engraving. He has attended six advanced engraving classes at GRS, the foremost engraving equipment manufacturer in the world. He has also begun to set precious gemstones into all styles of jewelry, adding to the line of products Jewelry by Cottage Studio offers.
The Dynan's opened Cottage Studio and Gallery in Easton, in 2012. It was the home to many local artists for the three years. Now John & Maryetta have returned to the "shop" to create more of their one of a kind jewelry on a modified, full time basis. "Owning something handmade has value that cannot be duplicated by the factory produced jewelry. When something is handmade, be it jewelry or something else, means that that craftsperson handled that item for sometimes hours during its creation. We feel that some of the craftsperson’s spirit stays with each piece bringing that feeling of satisfaction of something well made to the owner."
You can find their unique pieces in three local venues, including Green Phoenix, Easton; and, Chestertown River Arts - Christmas Show. In March 2017 we have created and opened a working studio and gallery in Cambridge, MD. We are open Weds. - Sat from 11-5, or by appointment. Classes are being offered on a rotating schedule throughout the year. Visit our Class page for more information. We also welcome visitors to our home based studio workshop, in Easton, where you can choose a stone from our collection; help in the design of a new piece for yourself or a friend; or, set up private classes.
